About renting in New Lenox

New Lenox is a village in Will County. The 2020 Census counted 27,214 residents. On Metra's Rock Island line, New Lenox is the first stop after Joliet on the way to LaSalle Street Station in Chicago.

Getting around. The village cites the Route 30 and I-80 interchange and the Route 6 and I-355 interchange. New Lenox has two Metra stations, both in fare Zone 4:

  • New Lenox station on the Rock Island line, to LaSalle Street Station
  • New Lenox Laraway Road station on the SouthWest Service, to Chicago Union Station

The village's commuter parking page covers daily parking at both stations. See our commuting guide for Rock Island schedules and fares.

History. According to the village, the area was first settled in the late 1820s near what is now Route 30 and Gougar Road, and was called VanHorne Point. The community was originally named Tracey, after the general superintendent of the Rock Island Railroad, and later renamed New Lenox after the township, which was named for Lenox, New York. The Village of New Lenox was incorporated on October 4, 1946, after a community vote that spring.
