Privacy policy

JolietRent is a local rental listings and information site for Joliet, Illinois and six nearby towns. We collect as little as we can to run it. We don't sell personal information.

What we collect and why

If you contact a landlord about a listing, we save your name, email, the phone number and move-in date if you give them, and your message. We email it to that landlord so they can reply to you directly, and we keep a copy so the landlord can see it in their dashboard.

If you write an apartment review, we ask for your email to confirm you wrote it. We never show your email; your review appears under the display name you choose, or no name at all. See the review policy.

If you list a property, we keep your account email, the name or company you give us, an optional phone number, and your listings and photos. Listings, including the street address and photos, are public once approved. If you import listings from a spreadsheet or a listing feed, we also keep the feed link and copies of the photos it lists.

If you use the contact form, we keep your name, email and message so we can answer you.

Every visit sends the usual technical information (IP address, browser, the page you asked for) to our hosting provider, which keeps short-lived logs for security and troubleshooting.

Who helps us run the site

These companies process information for us, only to provide their service:

• Netlify hosts the website.
• Supabase stores accounts, listings, inquiries and reviews.
• Resend sends our emails.
• Cloudflare Turnstile checks that forms are sent by a person, not a bot.
• Google Analytics tells us which pages people use, so we know what to improve.
• OpenStreetMap serves the map images on our pages.
• Stripe processes payment if a landlord buys a featured listing. We never see or store card numbers.

Ads

Some guide and things-to-do articles show one ad from Google AdSense. No ads appear on listing, review, search or landlord pages.

Google and its partners use cookies to show ads. Those cookies let Google show you ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can turn off personalized ads in Google's ad settings, and opt out of personalized ads from many other companies at aboutads.info. Google explains how it uses information from sites that show its ads.

Ads are separate from everything else on the site. They don't affect which listings appear, how they're ranked, or which reviews are published.

Affiliate links

Some pages link to services such as tenant screening, renters insurance and hotels. These links are labeled, and we may earn a commission if you buy something. The other company may set its own cookies when you follow the link; its privacy policy applies there.

Cookies

• Sign-in cookies keep landlords signed in. They aren't used for anything else.
• Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) count visits and page views.
• Ad cookies (Google AdSense), on the articles that show an ad, as described above.
• Spam-check cookies (Cloudflare Turnstile), on pages with forms.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site works without them, except that landlords need cookies to sign in.

How long we keep it

We keep inquiries and contact messages for up to two years, and reviews and listings for as long as they're on the site and for a reasonable time afterward to handle disputes. Landlord accounts stay until you ask us to close them.

Your choices

Contact us to see the personal information we have about you, correct it, or ask us to delete it. We'll answer within 30 days. We may keep what the law requires us to keep, and published reviews stay up under the review policy, but we'll remove your email from them.

Children

The site is meant for adults looking for housing. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will also be noted on the home page for 30 days.
