About renting in Crest Hill

Crest Hill is a city in Will County located just north of Joliet, according to the City of Crest Hill. The 2020 Census counted 20,459 residents.

Getting around. The city sits along Plainfield Road (the Lincoln Highway, U.S. Route 30), Weber Road and Broadway (IL Route 53, historic Route 66), with access to I-55, I-80 and I-355, per the city's transportation page. About 2 miles of the Lincoln Highway run through the center of Crest Hill. There is no Metra station in the city; the city points residents to stations in Joliet, Lockport and Romeoville. Pace routes 505 (West Joliet Loop), 507 and 832 serve Crest Hill, according to its public transportation page. The Forest Preserve District of Will County's Rock Run Greenway Trail runs from Crest Hill south through Joliet, with an access point at Theodore Marsh on Gaylord Road.

History. Crest Hill was incorporated in 1960. The city's Lidice Memorial page explains its sister-city tie to Lidice, the Czech village destroyed by the Nazis in June 1942: days later, Stern Park developer Dominic Romano renamed the town in Lidice's honor, the first place in the world to do so.

For renters and landlords. Crest Hill runs its own rental registration program, separate from Joliet's: property owners must register all rental units, and the city says rental inspections are required annually by ordinance.
