How this list works
A listing is eligible when it is in an apartment community on our apartment buildings list and that building's year of completion, from the property or public records, is 2010 or later. Buildings without a published year built aren't included.
Eligible listings are scored with the formula on How we rank: rent compared with the Census median for that town and bedroom count (50 points), listed amenities (30 points), and verified resident reviews once a building has at least three (20 points).
Why year built matters
Newer buildings are more likely to include features such as in-unit laundry and central air, and they were built under more recent building and accessibility codes. They often rent above the area median, which the price part of the score accounts for.
